T.Y. Hilton
T.Y. Hilton injures shoulder at practice
Sat, Aug 18, 2018, 6:41 PM
Zak Keefer on Twitter
T.Y. Hilton suffered a shoulder sprain at Saturday's practice.
Analysis: The Colts don't consider it serious. Hilton looks day to day but could sit out the second preseason game. It shouldn't have any impact on his Week 1 status.
Denzelle Good
Denzelle Good nursing a torn hamstring
Fri, Aug 17, 2018, 1:06 PM
Zak Keefer on Twitter
Colts RT Denzelle Good remains sidelined with a Grade 2 hamstring tear.
Analysis: It sounds worse than it is as Good is expected to resume practicing in about a week. When healthy, Good is expected to back up free-agent signing Austin Howard at right tackle.
Jordan Wilkins
Wilkins receives first-team reps on Thursday
Thu, Aug 16, 2018, 2:43 PM
George Bremer on Twitter
Colts fifth-round RB Jordan Wilkins received first-team reps in Thursday's practice.
Analysis: The Colts are rotating backs while Marlon Mack is sidelined, but it is still notable any time a fifth-round pick receives first-team reps in his rookie camp. Wilkins previously ran with the first team in minicamp, and has been drawing praise going back to rookie OTAs. He's a name to file away in the final rounds of fantasy drafts.
Josh Ferguson
Colts RB Ferguson returns to practice Tuesday
Tue, Aug 14, 2018, 6:37 PM
Andrew Walker on Twitter
Colts RB Josh Ferguson (hamstring) returned to practice Tuesday.
Analysis: Ferguson has missed most of camp with a hamstring injury. In his absence, the Colts added ex-Chargers RB Branden Oliver and former Lion RB Tion Green to their backfield. With Marlon Mack (hamstring) sidelined a few weeks and rookie Nyheim Hines struggling, Ferguson's camp reps can go a long way to solidifying his place on Indy's roster. Jordan Wilkins, Robert Turbin (four-game suspension), and Christine Michael round out the rest of the club's backfield.
Tion Green
Colts take flier on RB Tion Green
Tue, Aug 14, 2018, 3:53 PM
Colts signed RB Tion Green.
Analysis: The Colts are a back short as Marlon Mack battles a hamstring injury. A 2017 UDFA out of Cincinnati, Green handled 42 rookie carries for the Lions but didn't do anything notable with them. The Colts' practice squad wouldn't be a bad outcome.
Branden Oliver
IND adds Branden Oliver to backfield rotation
Sun, Aug 12, 2018, 5:39 PM
Indianapolis Colts on Twitter
Colts signed RB Branden Oliver.
Analysis: The club waived Dres Anderson to make room for Oliver. The timing potentially says something to the rest of Indianapolis' running back depth as Nyheim Hines has struggled, Marlon Mack (hamstring) is likely out a few weeks, Robert Turbin (ankle, suspension) is recovering, Josh Ferguson (hamstring) has been limited, and Christine Michael exists. Jordan Wilkins has a leg up on the competition as long as he's healthy. Either way, adding a competent back like Oliver to the mix creates a frustrating situation for all in fantasy.
Ryan Delaire
Colts sign DE Ryan Delaire
Sat, Aug 11, 2018, 2:40 PM
Ian Rapoport on Twitter
Colts signed DE Ryan Delaire.
Analysis: Delaire was out of the league last season while recovering from knee surgery. He spent part of minicamp in Chicago and is fully healthy. The 26-year-old is training camp depth.
Colts lose Deon Cain for season with torn ACL
Fri, Aug 10, 2018, 5:08 PM
Albert Breer on Twitter
Colts WR Deon Cain is out for the season with a torn ACL.
Analysis: This confirms a report from The Ringer's Michael Lombardi. It's a terrible break for Cain after a strong training camp. Already one of the weakest receiver depth charts in the league, the Colts lose a ton of upside with Cain going down. The injury likely locks fifth-rounder Daurice Fountain into a roster spot. Cain should be 100 percent for the start of next season.
Cain's knee injury could be 'season-ending'
Fri, Aug 10, 2018, 2:40 PM
Michael Lombardi on Twitter
Michael Lombardi of The Ringer is hearing Colts WR Deon Cain's knee injury could be "season-ending."
Analysis: This would be a tough break for a Colts receiving corps that was already relatively thin behind field-stretcher T.Y. Hilton. The sixth-round rookie has been a standout throughout training camp, leading beat writer Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star to believe he could push for "serious snaps" this year. We're still waiting for Cain's test results but right now, it doesn't seem promising.
Marlon Mack
Mack (hamstring) likely to miss a 'few weeks'
Fri, Aug 10, 2018, 2:18 PM
Jason La Canfora on Twitter
According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the "initial sense" is that Marlon Mack will miss a few weeks with a "manageable" hamstring strain.
Deon Cain done for night with knee injury
Thu, Aug 9, 2018, 10:55 PM
Bob Kravitz on Twitter
Colts WR Deon Cain suffered a knee injury in Thursday night's game against the Seahawks and will not return.
Analysis: The buzzed-about sixth-rounder had one catch for four yards before going down. It's possible the Colts are just exercising caution in an exhibition tilt, but even a few days of missed time would be costly for Cain as he attempts to out-shine his day-three label as a rookie. His status will be updated in the next 24 hours.
Andrew Luck
Luck shines in first game action in 18 months
Thu, Aug 9, 2018, 10:05 PM
Andrew Luck completed 6-of-9 passes for 64 yards in Thursday's preseason opener versus the Seahawks.
Analysis: Luck went 5-of-7 for 55 yards on the Colts' opening drive, even taking a hit at one point when scrambling for a first down on third-and-short. HC Frank Reich took a more vanilla approach with Indy's offensive scheme Thursday, but Luck ultimately looked his normal form in his first game action in 18 months. If Luck continues to look healthy without any setbacks, both he and T.Y. Hilton's ADP's are sure to skyrocket over the next three weeks.
Marlon Mack
Marlon Mack exits game with hamstring injury
Thu, Aug 9, 2018, 9:45 PM
Mike Chappell on Twitter
Marlon Mack exited the Colts' preseason opener with a hamstring injury.
Analysis: The extent is currently unknown, but hamstring injuries are always worth monitoring throughout the preseason once they occur. As expected, Mack started the game with Andrew Luck and the first-string offense, receiving a flip from Luck on the Colts' very first play. Robert Turbin came in the game once Mack exited.
Erik Swoope
Erik Swoope having a strong camp for Colts
Wed, Aug 8, 2018, 10:02 AM
ESPN.com
ESPN's Mike Wells reports TE Erik Swoope is having a "strong" training camp.
Analysis: The former college basketball player is entering his fifth season with the Colts, and it's probably now or never for him in Indy. By all accounts, Swoope has looked great on the practice field. He'll need to put out some good film this preseason, but the highest he'd be on the depth chart is the third tight end behind Jack Doyle and Eric Ebron. Perhaps Swoope could be trade bait.
Andrew Luck
Andrew Luck admits he was unsure of future
Tue, Aug 7, 2018, 12:45 PM
ESPN.com
Andrew Luck admits he was unsure of his playing future as he rehabbed his shoulder injury.
Analysis: "There were one or two moments where I wondered if I am ever going to be able to do this again," Luck said Tuesday. It's not terribly surprising, but it's not something you will typically hear an athlete admit. Thursday's preseason game against the Seahawks will be Luck's first live action since Week 17 of the 2016 season.
Ryan Grant
Colts WR Ryan Grant locked into No. 2 job
Tue, Aug 7, 2018, 9:58 AM
colts.com
Colts coach Frank Reich said T.Y. Hilton and Ryan Grant "have really separated themselves" from the other receivers.
Analysis: Hilton is the clear No. 1 option in the passing game, so it would be a major concern if he was not separating himself. Grant blowing away the likes of Chester Rogers and rookie Deon Cain is a bit more surprising, but the former Redskin has always been a coach favorite. With Andrew Luck healthy, Indy's passing game carries major upside. Grant is an exceptional late-round pick.
Peter King: WR Cain 'big star' of Colts camp
Mon, Aug 6, 2018, 1:09 PM
Peter King on Twitter
NBC's Peter King reports sixth-round WR Deon Cain "has been the big star of (Colts) training camp."
Analysis: "Look for him early on to make a big impact," was one of King's main takeaways from Colts camp. This is just adding to the drumbeat that's been steadily growing. The next step will be actually translating it to preseason games. If Cain can pair a strong exhibition season with his excellent practices, he's going to steal snaps and targets in an offense where they are there for the taking.
Anthony Castonzo
Anthony Castonzo expected to miss a few weeks
Sun, Aug 5, 2018, 11:29 AM
Zak Keefer on Twitter
Colts LT Anthony Castonzo will likely miss a "few weeks" after aggravating his hamstring injury at Friday's practice.
Analysis: However, beat writer Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star expects he'll be ready by Week 1. Castonzo has had trouble shaking a hamstring injury that he initially suffered during his offseason training. J'Marcus Webb is a candidate to fill in for Castonzo at left tackle.
John Simon
John Simon absent with groin injury
Sun, Aug 5, 2018, 11:17 AM
Andrew Walker on Twitter
Colts DE John Simon sat out Sunday's practice with a groin injury.
Ryan Grant
Colts list Ryan Grant as starter
Sun, Aug 5, 2018, 9:35 AM
Zak Keefer on Twitter
Ryan Grant was listed as a starter on the Colts' initial training camp depth chart.
Analysis: He was listed as a starter opposite perennial 1,000-yard receiver T.Y. Hilton. Grant was never more than a complementary piece in Washington but looks poised for a significant role in Indy's passing-game this year. Though listed as a backup, Chester Rogers will likely work as the Colts' primary slot receiver in three-wide sets.
