Everson Griffen
Griffen will resume team activities Wednesday
Tue, Oct 23, 2018, 5:24 PM
Adam Schefter on Twitter
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Vikings DE Everson Griffen (personal) will resume team activities tomorrow.
Analysis: Griffen left the team on September 20 to address his mental health struggles, but the Vikings are welcoming him back nearly a month later. It is unclear if Griffen will be eligible to play for the Week 8 game against the Saints, but it's great news that he is doing well enough to be around his teammates. When Griffen is on the field, he is one of the league's top pass-rushers, highlighted by his double-digit sack totals in three of his last four seasons.
Kyle Rudolph
Rudolph catches just one pass in victory
Sun, Oct 21, 2018, 4:12 PM
Kyle Rudolph caught just 1-of-4 targets for 16 yards in the Vikings' Week 7 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Rudolph has been held below 50 yards in 5-of-7 games and hasn't scored since Week 3. However, he remains a TE1 at a weak position going into a potential shootout next week at home against a bad Saints defense.
Xavier Rhodes
Xavier Rhodes suffers ankle sprain in Week 7
Sun, Oct 21, 2018, 4:03 PM
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said CB Xavier Rhodes suffered an ankle sprain in Week 7 against the Jets.
Analysis: This is good news after Rhodes had to be carried off the field. Rhodes could miss multiple weeks if he's dealing with a high-ankle sprain, but his season isn't in jeopardy.
Stefon Diggs
Diggs turns 14 targets into 8-33 day vs. Jets
Sun, Oct 21, 2018, 4:03 PM
Stefon Diggs caught 8-of-14 targets for 33 yards in the Vikings' Week 7 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Adam Thielen hung a 9-110-1 day up on 10 targets while Diggs struggled in Morris Claiborne's coverage much of the afternoon. Diggs was getting targets close to the line of scrimmage and had trouble getting anything after the catch. The 14 targets were his second-most of the season. Diggs will look to get back on track next week in a home game against the Saints. The last time he saw them, in the playoffs, Diggs became a legend with the Minnesota Miracle.
Kirk Cousins
Cousins throws 2 TDs in easy win over Jets
Sun, Oct 21, 2018, 3:57 PM
Kirk Cousins completed 25-of-40 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns in the Vikings' Week 7 win over the Jets.
Analysis: It was a struggle much of the day as both offenses really had trouble moving the ball. At one point, both teams were a combined 0-for-12 on third downs. Cousins, however, did throw a 34-yard touchdown to Adam Thielen on the opening drive before then hitting Aldrick Robinson for a second 34-yard score in the fourth quarter. Both were dimes from Cousins in tight coverage. Cousins will look to get back on track with big numbers next week against the Saints at home.
Latavius Murray
Latavius scores pair of TDs in easy road win
Sun, Oct 21, 2018, 3:52 PM
Latavius Murray rushed 15 times for 69 yards and two touchdowns in the Vikings' Week 7 win over the Jets.
Analysis: He added two catches for 14 yards on a pair of targets. Murray's first score was an 11-yard scamper up the middle, and the second was an untouched run through the left side from 38 yards away. With Dalvin Cook still struggling to get healthy, Murray has emerged as a strong RB2 with reliable workloads. If Cook sits again, Murray will again be in play Week 8 against the Saints.
Adam Thielen
Thielen records seventh-straight 100-yard day
Sun, Oct 21, 2018, 3:34 PM
Adam Thielen caught 9-of-10 targets for 110 yards and one touchdown in the Vikings' 37-17, Week 7 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Thielen got the scoring started with a 34-yard touchdown on the opening drive, beating backup-turned-starter CB Darryl Roberts as he was falling away in the end zone. With his seventh-straight 100-yard game to open the season, Thielen has set a new record. Thielen is an obvious elite WR1 and will be involved in a potential shootout next week at home against the Saints.
Tom Compton
Vikings LG Tom Compton hurts knee vs. Jets
Sun, Oct 21, 2018, 12:42 PM
Vikings LG Tom Compton exited Week 7 against the Jets with a knee injury.
Analysis: Compton has started all seven games and played every snap before getting rolled up in pass pro. Sophomore Danny Isidora is in at left guard.
Dalvin Cook
Vikings declare Week 7 inactives
Sun, Oct 21, 2018, 10:44 AM
Vikings declared RB Dalvin Cook, S Andrew Sendejo, DE Everson Griffen, DT Linval Joseph, OT Riley Reiff, LB Devante Downs, and QB Kyle Sloter inactive for Week 7 against the Jets.
Dalvin Cook
Dalvin Cook (hamstring) ruled out for Week 7
Fri, Oct 19, 2018, 12:39 PM
Chris Tomasson on Twitter
Dalvin Cook (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 7 against the Jets.
Analysis: This was expected after Cook was held out of Thursday's practice. Cook's had multiple setbacks with his hamstring injury, so he's not a lock to be back next week. Latavius Murray will make another start in Cook's place.
Dalvin Cook
Dalvin Cook officially 'DNP' on Thursday
Thu, Oct 18, 2018, 3:29 PM
Updating an earlier item, Dalvin Cook (hamstring) was officially "DNP" on Thursday.
Analysis: Alrighty then. The "DNP" designation comes less than an hour after coach Mike Zimmer appeared to say Cook was "not limited" on Thursday. What he actually meant was that the running back did not even get in a limited session. Cook's status is now genuinely up in the air. Hopefully the Vikings were just managing his reps. Cook's Friday listing will tell the story of his Week 7 status.
Dalvin Cook
Dalvin Cook remains 'full' on Thursday
Thu, Oct 18, 2018, 2:53 PM
Chris Tomasson on Twitter
Dalvin Cook (hamstring) remained "full" in Thursday's practice.
Analysis: A reporter caused a mini-Twitter furor when he posted that Cook had "left" practice, but it was not anything out of the ordinary. We have been conditioned to expect Cook setbacks, but this was not one of them. He will be back against the Jets. Cook is a risk/reward RB2 in an ugly running back landscape.
Dalvin Cook
Dalvin Cook gets in full practice Wednesday
Wed, Oct 17, 2018, 4:27 PM
Minnesota Vikings on Twitter
Dalvin Cook (hamstring) is practicing in full for Week 7 against the Jets.
Analysis: Cook was a surprise inactive last week but appears to be on track for Sunday's game in East Rutherford. With Cook's hamstring giving him problems-he's already had one setback-it's hard for fantasy owners to start him with any kind of confidence. Latavius Murray fared well in Cook's absence last week (24 carries for 155 yards and a touchdown), though he's also been inconsistent. Only four teams have averaged fewer rushing yards per game than Minnesota this year.
Mike Hughes
Vikings 'fear' torn ACL for CB Mike Hughes
Sun, Oct 14, 2018, 4:05 PM
Tom Pelissero on Twitter
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Vikings fear CB Mike Hughes suffered a torn ACL in Week 6 against the Cardinals.
Analysis: It's terrible news after Hughes had started to take off over the last three weeks. He's now headed for injured reserve. The first round pick will finish with 22 tackles and an interception over three starts before going down. Mackensie Alexander will pick up Hughes' snaps.
Kyle Rudolph
Rudolph held out of end-zone vs Cardinals
Sun, Oct 14, 2018, 4:02 PM
Kyle Rudolph caught four passes for 37 yards in Week 6 against the Cardinals.
Analysis: It's another standard Rudolph game. Rudolph has just two touchdowns this season and hasn't scored since Week 3. He'll be a back-end TE1 against the Jets in Week 7.
Stefon Diggs
Stefon Diggs held to 33 yards vs Cardinals
Sun, Oct 14, 2018, 3:56 PM
Stefon Diggs caught 3-of-5 passes for 33 yards in Week 6 against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Diggs took a backseat to Adam Thielen, who accounted for over half of Kirk Cousins' yards. The five targets were the lowest he's seen all year. Diggs should rebound in a matchup with the Jets in Week 7.
Adam Thielen
Thielen posts sixth straight 100-yard game
Sun, Oct 14, 2018, 3:49 PM
Adam Thielen caught 11-of-15 targets for 123 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings' Week 6 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: It's the sixth straight game Thielen has went over 100 yards. The Vikings pass offense went through Thielen, who caught Kirk Cousins' only touchdown on a red-zone pass in the middle of the end-zone. He also had a highlight diving sideline catch in third quarter. Thielen has been the highest floor receiver in the league this year. He'll remain a locked-in WR1 for Week 7 against the Jets.
Latavius Murray
Latavius Murray has workhorse role in win
Sun, Oct 14, 2018, 3:31 PM
Latavius Murray rushed 24 times for 155 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings' Week 6 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: With Dalvin Cook out, Murray rebounded from his disappointing Week 5. He ripped the Cardinals for three 20-plus yard runs, with his touchdown coming on a highlight 21-yarder where he stiff-armed into the end-zone. Murray came into Sunday averaging just 3.5 YPC, but he made a case for a role when Dalvin Cook returns. Cook would be a plug-and-play RB2 if Cook isn't back for Week 7.
Kirk Cousins
Cousins leads Vikings to second straight win
Sun, Oct 14, 2018, 3:16 PM
Kirk Cousins completed 24-of-34 passes for 233 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Vikings' Week 6 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: He added a touchdown on a seven-yard run. Cousins fumbled on a sack that was returned for a touchdown, but he was sharp in this one, completing 71 percent of his passes. Cousins' only passing TD was a perfect throw over the middle to Adam Thielen. He's now led the Vikings to consecutive wins after losing to Buffalo and the Rams. Cousins gets a matchup with the Jets in Week 7.
Riley Reiff
Vikings LT Riley Reiff out for Week 6
Sun, Oct 14, 2018, 10:39 AM
Vikings LT Riley Reiff (foot) is out for Week 6 against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Reiff was already ruled out. He didn't practice all week and isn't a lock to return in Week 7. The rest of Minnesota's inactives are QB Kyle Sloter, S Andrew Sendejo, DE Everson Griffen, DE Tashawn Bower (ankle), and LB Devante Downs.
