Patriots RT Marcus Cannon has been sitting out with a "muscle strain."
Isaiah Wynn
Pats 1st-round OL Isaiah Wynn out for season

Patriots first-round OL Isaiah Wynn (torn Achilles) was ruled out for the 2018 season.
Rex Burkhead
Burkhead dealing with 'slight tear' in knee
Fri, Aug 17, 2018, 12:13 AM
Jeff Howe on Twitter
The Athletic's Jeff Howe reports Rex Burkhead is dealing with a "slight tear" in his knee.
Analysis: It sounds bad, but Howe reports it's been "deemed a minor injury," and is something the Patriots believe he will be able to play through. Howe reported earlier Thursday that Burkhead likely would have suited up for the Pats' exhibition game against the Eagles were it the regular season. It seems to be a legitimately minor injury, though it's worth noting Burkhead was also plagued by knee issues down the stretch in 2017.
Eric Decker
Eric Decker held without catch vs. Patriots
Fri, Aug 17, 2018, 12:01 AM
Eric Decker was held without a catch on two targets in Thursday's preseason game against the Eagles.
Analysis: One of Decker's missed connections was a drop. That's bad news for a 31-year-old player who has been struggling with drops since he arrived in New England 15 days ago. Decker's poor summer coupled with his disappointing 2017 in Tennessee have him on the outside looking in of the Patriots' 53-man roster.
Phillip Dorsett
Phillip Dorsett makes second-straight start
Thu, Aug 16, 2018, 9:07 PM
Phillip Dorsett started his second-straight preseason game on Thursday, catching 1-of-3 targets for four yards against the Eagles.
Analysis: This was a no-joke start, with the Patriots' first-team offense playing the entire first half. It came mere days after Dorsett had an injury scare in practice. The starts are nice, but Dorsett has turned them into one total catch. Working on becoming a more "total" receiver for the Pats' offense, Dorsett's upside is still capped by the fact that he's done so little on the regular season field through three NFL seasons.
Chris Hogan
Chris Hogan (pre)#szn: 5/25/1 versus Eagles
Thu, Aug 16, 2018, 9:05 PM
Playing the entire first half, Chris Hogan caught 5-of-7 targets for 25 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason game against the Eagles.
Analysis: The Patriots' No. 1 receiver flamed rookie fourth-rounder Avonte Maddox on his four-yard score, using a double move to get open from the slot. Relentlessly targeted all summer in Patriots practice, Hogan is a safe WR2 in fantasy drafts.
Tom Brady
Tom Brady throws for 172 yards against Eagles
Thu, Aug 16, 2018, 9:01 PM
Tom Brady played the entire first half of Thursday's preseason game against the Eagles, completing 19-of-26 passes for 172 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Analysis: Brady was locked onto Chris Hogan, finding him five times for 25 yards and a nifty touchdown. Brady also worked his connection with James White, going 6/61/1. Having seen such extensive run tonight, it's possible Brady gets a lighter workload for next week's regular season dress rehearsal, where the Pats will take on the Panthers. Even with his supporting cast's injury/suspension issues, Brady is top-three fantasy quarterback.
Isaiah Wynn
Pats 1st-rounder Wynn carted with ankle issue
Thu, Aug 16, 2018, 7:28 PM
Ian Rapoport on Twitter
Patriots first-round OL Isaiah Wynn was carted off the field with a left ankle injury in Thursday's preseason game.
Analysis: Wynn, who is expected to begin the year as a reserve, was at right tackle when he went down. Carts can often be precautionary, but there was no "own power" for Wynn before he was loaded up.
Rex Burkhead
Report: Rex Burkhead's injury is minor
Thu, Aug 16, 2018, 7:07 PM
Jeff Howe on Twitter
The Athletic's Jeff Howe reports Rex Burkhead's undisclosed injury is minor.
Analysis: Howe reports there's a "good chance" Burkhead would have suited up for Thursday's game were it a regular season contest. Burkhead has missed four-straight days of practice, but it doesn't sound like that streak will get much longer. With Burkhead and Sony Michel out, James White started against the Eagles.
Braxton Berrios outplaying Riley McCarron
Thu, Aug 16, 2018, 5:26 PM
Boston Herald
The Boston Herald reports Braxton Berrios has outplayed Riley McCarron in camp.
Analysis: "Both have a ways to go," beat writer Kevin Duffy observed. The early scuttlebutt had been McCarron outplaying Berrios. The deep reserve slot men are fighting for snaps - and a roster spot - while Julian Edelman serves his four-game PED suspension. Berrios is a rookie seventh-rounder, McCarron a second-year UDFA. Berrios looks like the better own in Dynasty leagues.
Kenny Britt
Kenny Britt (hamstring) still not practicing
Thu, Aug 16, 2018, 5:20 PM
Boston Herald
Kenny Britt (hamstring) has yet to resume practicing.
Mike Gillislee
Gillislee's roster spot remains up in the air
Thu, Aug 16, 2018, 5:10 PM
Boston Herald
The Boston Herald believes Mike Gillislee's roster spot remains up in the air.
Analysis: Beat writer Kevin Duffy believes "it's clear" that Gillislee "worked hard on his receiving skills in the offseason." That's a standard trope for backs who can't catch passes. We would not expect Gillislee to suddenly make a difference there, though injuries to Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead have his roster odds on the increase. Ultimately, Gillislee is probably in direct competition with Jeremy Hill, who has been running ahead of Gillislee.
Chris Hogan
'Process ongoing' for Chris Hogan extension
Thu, Aug 16, 2018, 2:10 PM
Jeff Howe on Twitter
The Athletic's Jeff Howe reports the Patriots have had extension talks with contract-year WR Chris Hogan, but that the sides "remain a bit too far apart at the early stages of the process."
Analysis: How considers the process to be "ongoing." Now 30, Hogan was a restricted free agent that last time his contract came up. He's not going to have much incentive to take a team-friendly deal. This could be a tricky one, especially since Hogan missed half of 2017.
Tom Brady
Tom Brady expected to play Thursday night
Thu, Aug 16, 2018, 9:26 AM
Mike Reiss on Twitter
Tom Brady (back) is expected to play Thursday night against the Eagles.
Analysis: Brady was held out of the preseason opener with a minor back injury, although it is likely he would have skipped the game regardless of his health. Brady would not be playing in the second preseason game if the back was really an issue, so it is safe to assume he is 100 percent.
Rex Burkhead
Burkhead (undisclosed) will not play Thursday
Thu, Aug 16, 2018, 9:18 AM
Mike Reiss on Twitter
Rex Burkhead (undisclosed) will not play Thursday against the Eagles.
Analysis: Burkhead also sat out the preseason opener. It is a concern for a player who was limited to just 10 games last season, but there is still no indication he is dealing with a serious injury. Jeremy Hill and Mike Gillislee will get another shot to stake their claim to a roster spot.
Eric Decker
Eric Decker struggling with drops in camp
Tue, Aug 14, 2018, 8:21 AM
Providence Journal
Eric Decker has struggled with drops since joining the Patriots.
Analysis: Decker reportedly dropped the first pass Tom Brady threw him last week, dropped two more on Sunday, and committed three drops on Monday. "It's part of the game. We're all human," Decker said. "I've played a lot of football. I've had a few drops in my day. I have many catches as well. I know how to bounce back and get to it." Decker did bounce back to finish Monday's session strong, but he is clearly experiencing some growing pains. Unfortunately, he does not have very long to work out the kinks.
Tom Brady
Brady 'absolutely' expects to play this week
Tue, Aug 14, 2018, 8:13 AM
Tom Brady (back) said he "absolutely" expects to play in the second preseason game.
Analysis: Brady was held out of the preseason opener with a sore back, but the quarterback says he is fine. "I am doing really well," Brady said. "You just always have little things that you're working through. That is part of football season, but I feel really good." If he suits up on Thursday night, Brady will not see more than a handful of snaps.
Rex Burkhead
Rex Burkhead (undisclosed) out on Monday
Mon, Aug 13, 2018, 9:13 AM
Rex Burkhead (undisclosed) did not practice Monday.
Analysis: Burkhead was limited last Wednesday, did not play in the preseason opener, and has not practiced since. There is no reason to believe he is dealing with a serious issue at this point, but the missed time is a concern for a player who was limited to 10 games last season. With Sony Michel (knee) also out, Jeremy Hill and Mike Gillislee are handling the bulk of the backfield work.
Eric Decker
Decker 'having a pretty hard time' in camp
Mon, Aug 13, 2018, 9:10 AM
Doug Kyed on Twitter
NESN's Doug Kyed reports Eric Decker is "still having a pretty hard time" during training camp.
Analysis: Kyed mentions two incidents from Monday's practice -- he pushed off on his first target and dropped his second -- but the use of "still" in the tweet suggests this has been a recurring theme for Decker since joining the team a couple weeks ago. He could certainly turn things around, but Decker would not be the first veteran receiver to struggle after signing with the Patriots. Decker's contract includes just $75,000 in guaranteed money.
Jeremy Hill
Jeremy Hill working ahead of Mike Gillislee
Sun, Aug 12, 2018, 5:12 PM
Nora Princiotti on Twitter
Patriots RB Jeremy Hill was being used ahead of RB Mike Gillislee at camp Sunday.
Analysis: Considered to have equal roles when camp initially opened, Hill has seemingly buoyed his 11-51-1 performance in Thursday's preseason opener into reps ahead of Gillislee. With Rex Burkhead battling an unspecified injury and Sony Michel (knee) still out, Hill has suddenly entered the picture as the Patriots' true No. 3 back behind the former two. James White will remain New England's passing and third-down back.
